Teamwork makes the dream work. At Flow Communications this is more than just a cliché; it is the constant by which we achieve quality work for our clients. And nowhere was this more evident than the recently completed project for the Kyalami Schools Group.
The schools group, which comprises Kyalami Preparatory, Beaulieu Preparatory and Beaulieu College, is based in the northern Johannesburg area of Midrand. In 2017, the schools’ management team reached out to Flow to conceptualise, design, edit and publish annual magazines for each of its schools.

Flow did some brainstorming and came up with a magazine design that encapsulates the character of each individual school.
School magazines are as much a part of Flow as the colour pink, but this project required a good grasp of how each school, although run by one administration, was totally different. From the topics of conversation in the staffroom, to the noise levels in the classrooms, to the interaction between teachers and pupils, an on-site visit demonstrated clearly that each school environment was truly unique.
“One of my best moments was sitting at a teacher’s desk downloading content in the middle of an Afrikaans class, while the teacher carried on teaching. I loved being back in the school environment, was made to feel special in the staffroom and would be happy to go through the whole experience all over again,” says project manager Sally-Ann Niven.
“I learned a huge amount on this project and can say with confidence that I can produce a beautiful school magazine, but not without the support of the Flow team.”
And the client agrees. After delivery of the final publications, a message from teacher Sally Jones at Beaulieu College read: “… Magazines have arrived. I’m popular. They look bloody awesome. And just in time for Open Day tomorrow.”
Jones’s sentiment was echoed by Kyalami Preparatory School teacher Christie van Staden, who said: “Thank you, thank you! Now we start all over again.”
