Flow client City Sightseeing recently treated the Jive Cape Town Funny Festival cast to an outing to Constantia. Flow Cape Town was fortunate to be part of the event.
Groot Constantia forms part of City Sightseeing’s popular Cape Town Wine Tour that takes in several top wine farms in the Constantia area.
A favourite with local audiences, the Jive Cape Town Funny Festival is a popular fixture on the city’s social calendar and has been running for more than a decade.
Founded in 2004 by public relations guru Eddy Cassar and dubbed “Cape Town’s winter comedic tonic”, the shows cater for fans eager for a few laughs to beat the cold.
This year’s line-up features a variety of international and local acts, including Norwegian contortionist Captain Frodo, London-based magician and comic Paul Dabek, and Capetonian comedian Mel Jones.
The day started off with a mid-morning trip on the red bus to Groot Constantia to explore this legendary wine farm, which formed part of an excursion that saw the cast treat their loved ones to a Cape-style family day outdoors.
Guided by Karen Woodcock from Groot Constantia's marketing team, we moved on to tour the estate’s Manor House, a magnificent old building filled with 18th- and 19th-century artefacts. Founded in 1685, Groot Constantia is believed to be the country’s oldest commercial wine farm.
But what’s a visit to a wine farm without seeing the cellar? It was here that we learned about soil composition and saw barrels of award-winning wines before sampling a few at the in-house eatery.
Then it was off to Simon’s Restaurant for a lunchtime wine tasting, featuring two white wines and two reds from the cellar. Lunch was served while we learned more about Groot Constantia’s other wine offerings.
The day ended with a trip back to the city via scenic Camps Bay, courtesy of the red bus. The cast loved the adventure and we’ve got the evidence to prove it! Be sure to get your tickets to the festival, which runs until 8 August 2017.
